An
avalanche of thick mud and rock, brought on by incessant rains, buried nearly
60 people at a luxury hotel in Ilha Grande, a resort island southwest of Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil.
The hotel complex is nestled at the bottom of a jungle-covered hillside which
gave way before dawn on New Year’s Day, transforming the tourist paradise into
an unimaginable hell.
